Lotus Notes Date/Time Field

Have a Notes form w/ two date fields.  No idea if it is one field or both that are erroring out.  When the document is being composed and saved, it errors with the following:  "Alphabetic month required".  It's worked for several months with no problem.  This would lead me to suspect a corrupt form.

Thanks for your consideration.

The exact error message is unknown to me in this context. Which leads me to assume that it is an error message that's present in the form itself. But that's guessing...

I suppose that you already made a backup of the form or the database, and that you tried to remove both fields, to see if the error still occurred? What else did you do to find the culprit?

How is the date to be entered in the field? Your 2 lines of text hardly provide enough information to work with.

Most likely: a faulty calculation of the default value of one of the fields (or both). If it happens during the save, check: QueryRecalc, PostRecalc, QuerySave and PostSave events. Make a copy of the database to do some tests. Remove fields until there is no error, and then the last field you removed caused the message.

Oh, and what Notes are we talking about, which release, which client, which O/S, etc.

Never heard of that error, and even if I try to invoke it (date field, formatted dd-mmm-yyyy, entering invalid data), I can't reproduce it (R8.5.1).
I assume that this is a feature built by the (a) applications developer(s).

Can you see in the design synopsis (File > Database or File > Application; choose type all > select all) if/where this error is coded?
Tools like Teamstudio Analyzer or Configurator can be used for that opurpose as well.

A tool like R8.5 also has a search function... ;-)

True, it does a very neat job. It is quite "eclipse"-like though, this "file search" (sounds odd withing an application). Regarding java-, javascript- or plugin search: you don't know in advance, do you?
The synopsis may be buggy, but it is also available in earlier versions AND in the normal client!
Just working towards a fast and simple way to find what we need here (I "thought" you'd understand, Sjef - <grin>)

The R8.5 search works a lot better (= faster) when you define a Working Set with only one database (or two) and you restrict the search to that Working Set.

Let's see if I can summarize some additional comments.

I am the original developer of the database.  I can say authoritatively that this message is not the result of some data validation code.
It only began recently after months of successful usage.
I cannot locate the message myself on any boards or other IBM/Lotus support area.
Clients:  Win2K, Notes 6.5.1.

Have re-examined the fields and the debugger does not activate on this error.  It acts as if it has a validation formula but it doesn't and activates on a simple form refresh.

I've resolved it (if you call this a resolution) by reverting from a date-picker style control to a standard text-entry date field.  This seems to avoid the issue.    Aargh.

Thanks for your input and consideration.

Any change in the way dates are presented? Something you may not have piched up during the first 12 days of the month? Logs might reveil something...?

delete one field and then see whether the error comes. If it still comes, rename the field and give it the default value as the old value, so if u have a field by name x, rename it to y and then give the default value as x

From http://read.pudn.com/downloads171/sourcecode/windows/system/792564/notesapi/include/miscerr.h__.htm :

#define ERR_TDI_CONV_ALPHA_MONTH                  (PKG_MISC2+21)
      errortext(ERR_TDI_CONV_ALPHA_MONTH, "Alphabetic month required. ")

Apparently, TID stands for something like TimeDate Input. The error exists, that much is proved, but where does it come from? No clue...

As it is, you may be right:
- a corrupt form (do a copy-type compact)
- or other corrupt design element (same compact)
- or just an R8.5 bug (can you upgrade?)
