SharePoint 2007 - need to change IP address on database server on a virtual machine.

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone might be able to offer suggestions about how I would go about the following:

I have a MOSS 2007 test farm with 2 WFEs and one database server.  The database server needs to move to a new location and get a new IP address.  I don't need to change the machine name.  Here is the problem:  the database server is attached to the farm by IP address and not the server name.  When I look in CA at the farm topology, I see the IP address under server, and "Windows SharePoint Services Database" under Services running.

Here is what I am thinking of doing:
1.  Remove the server from the farm by running the sharepoint products and technologies wizard on that server.
2.  Migrate the virtual machine to it's new home and change the IP address.
3.  Add the server back to the farm using the SharePoint products and technologies wizard.

Will this work or is there something I am missing here?

Obviously this its not good to attach via IP, but you know that now.

I would try running this command to change to the name BEFORE changint the IP.  Once you are up and running on the name instead of the IP, you can just change the IP no prob.

Thanks, I am trying this, I am running into issues migrating the virtual server.  I will get back to you once I have those resolved.
