Xenapp 6 Install

I have just installed Xenapp 6 on server 2008 R2 box and the discovery is failing.  The Server 2008 R2 box is a brand new with clean install and provisioned just for this purpose.

3 default roles have been configured; License Server, Web Interface, XenApp.  Not sure what i am missing here as i have done everything text book.  One thing that was strange is when i imported the license file to the server it told me the server hostname was inconsistent eventhough i am sure it was entered correctly when allocated.

I appreciate all assistance with getting this server up.

thanks. I did not have an issue allocating the license.  The error occurred when i was importing the license to the server.  that is when i got the hostname error.  This seems like a different situation than what is described in your link.

Also, i saw the thread you provided regarding the the Discovery and changing the services using network service to local system.  Did you have a successful result doing this yourself?

I am at a conference in Vegas so I do not have access to my farm.

I have several customers running XA6 and none have had the issues you describe.

The invalid host name issue you see I have only seen with XA5.  The way I fixed it on XA5 is to make sure all three Citrix license services are set to Automatic and Started.  The license file IS imported successfully and is working.  If you exit the license console and re enter it, you will see your license file is in use.  The problem was the Citrix License WMI service is not started so the license host name cannot be queried until the License WMI service is started.  But again, that issue I have never seen on XA6.

i am in the process of uninstalling Citrix completely and resinstalling.  i'll let you know if the issue persists after i start from scratch again.

WIth XenApp 6, if yoou uninstall the XenApp components, Citrix recommends you completely rebuild the server before installing XenApp again!

If you install the XenApp server role and then uninstall it, Citrix recommends that you re-image the server with a clean operating system before installing the XenApp server role again. Re-installation of the XenApp server role on a machine where it was previously uninstalled may fail in the following conditions [#228363, 224925]:•If you previously created a farm on this machine
•If you had IIS installed on the machine previously and/or chose to install XML Service Integration with IIS

http://support.citrix.com/proddocs/topic/xenapp6-w2k8/xenapp6-w2k8-readme.html

I believe you have gone down the wrong path on resolving your issues.

well thats not good...seems like citrix is piece of crap to me at this point.  I installed this on a brand new box and there is no reason that i have should  be starting off with these issues.

I'll reinstall the OS, and then reinstall Citrix and then give you an update...

Are you letting the Citrix installer install everything including the Server prereqs?  If not, you should be.  All you need to do is install the OS, assign a static IP, grab WIndows updates, install the .Net 3.5 SP1 Framework feature - STOP - now run the Citrix installer and let it do everything else.

I have installed XA6 numerous times and have NEVER run into the issues you are seeing.

Best wishes for you dude.

thanks.  i have followed everything you just said except I believe the Citrix installer installed .Net 3.5 SP1.  I have just provisioned a new virtual machine and i am installing the OS now...

ok so got side tracked but im back on this now.  i completed the installation text book style.  I have three roles installed, Xenapp, Web Interface, License Server.

The only role i have configured so far is the License Server.  Again, i encountered the host name consistency error after importing the license file.  I am sure the host name was entered correctly when reallocating the license.

I gues at this point i will proceed with the configure the XenApp role...

If you exit and then restart the License Mgmt COnsole, you should see that your license file was installed and is working.

the exact error was:

Inconsistent server host ID in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\Licensing\MyFiles\license_20110419125537.lic.

after "re-reading" the license file the license seems to have registered successfully.

Carl WebsterCommented:
Yeah, meaningless error.  Your license file should be installed and working.

ok so i was able to get the farm discovered after the clean reinstall.  i have published an application and now I am having an issue logging into the website interface.  i receive the following error:

"The system could not log you on. Ensure that you entered your details correctly and try again. If you are still unable to log on, contact your system administrator as your credentials may be invalid or there may be a problem with the authentication system."

i have followed the steps to ensure that the XML services site uses a different port than 80 and have tried reinstalling the website from the WIM.  The trouble with XenApp 6 continues...Apparently lots of people are having these issues. any ideas?

Carl WebsterCommented:
I never had these issues and neither have my customers.  Did you specifiy the XML port and license server info in a Citrix Policy?

andreacadiaAuthor Commented:
hmm... can you advise on where to check this.  I'm doing a default install on a brand new OS and brand new hardware.  there is nothing tricky going  on here...

Delivery Services Console
Policies
Computer Unfiltered Policy

Set at least the following three policies:

Licensing\License server host name
Server Settings\XenApp product edition
XML Service\XML service port

Create a Worker Group and place your server in it.  Use the Worker Group when publishing applications and not individual server names.
