How to play windows media files on Mac?

Quick question.  How to play windows media fles on Mac?  People sending video files that I can run on windows with media player but not on mac.  Please advice.

    Windows Media Components for QuickTime

    You can download VLC player for a Mac or mostly any other video playing software.  I recommend VLC because it comes with a lot of supported codecs.

    I forgot the link,

    After you install VLC player, locate the file you want to play, right click and choose 'Open with" VLC Player.
