Search Scope

Hi Guys,

Can someone please let me know the default value that is in SharePoint 2007 Search Scope page as well as the Authoritative page?

And also, if I wanted to search within a site, what should I configure to be able to search for a particular file within that site/list/document library?  I can only find the document if i search on the intranet (root site).  When I go to a particular site and select  This Site: Test site, it comes up with no results.

Thanks, Ezs

I assume you are talking about global search scopes, configured in the SSP.  In that case, the default is People or All Sites.

Authoritative Pages are usually the root site of your web apps.

What you are asking is out of the box functionality, nothing needs configured to see "This Site" and "This List".  If you aren't seeing the correct result for the chosen scope, it is probably because a crawl hasn't completed on the content source.

And also, is there any crawl rule set as well?

Reason why I am asking is that we had some issues after the AD migration and our search no longer works.  Had a few people working on the search and now not sure what default setting it was working before.  Would love to know the default settings or any settings you recommend.  The search is now working on the test environment, just need the right configuration settings.

Thanks, Ezs,

Thanks Ach1lles!

I got the search working for the main web application now as the url was different to the default AAM.  And now I am also getting search results for This Site and This List.

Now I am trying to get the second web app working now.  Going by your message, all I need to do is leave the Content Source Start Addresses as it is:

- sps3://main_webapp

Authoritatives pages:
Most Authoritative pages:

Am i correct?

Thanks so much for your help!

Not sure if this is the case, but can I have the search results stay within it's site collection rather than getting other site collection results?

Justin SmithSr. System EngineerCommented:
You need to have http://2nd_web app in your content sources as well.  Otherwise, it won't get crawled.

"This Site" will stay within the site collection.  "All Sites" will search all site collections.

Thanks Ach1lles!  I have added the http://2nd_webapp and now doing a full crawl.

Will let you know how it goes.

Cheers for your help!!!

Did you run the crawl at the same time as a backup was taking place?

Have you tried the crawl again?

There shouldn't be any back up running as this is a test environment though, but then again I am not quite sure.  But I have noticed for the last couple of weeks that I have been getting the following error randomly:

Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      Office Server Search
Event Category:      Gatherer
Event ID:      10036
Date:            20/04/2011

Code: 1205 occurred 1 time(s)

I will try again and see.

Thanks, Ezs

Same issue for the past 5 days while I was on holidays.

Event ID 2424 - I have updated the service account using the main admin account and changing it back to the Search Account in  the Windows Shared Services Search in CA > Operations > Services in Server.  Just wondering if anybody else had to change the search service account again for each server reboot?

The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again.

Context: Application 'Shared', Catalog 'Services ProfileImport'

Event ID 10036 -  Don't know why it keeps popping up.

A database error occurred.

Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Code: 1205 occurred 17 time(s)
Description: Transaction (Process ID 60) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.

Context: Application 'Shared Services'
