RESTORING BACKUPS FROM TAPES TO ASM DISK ARE VERY SLOW BUT THE SAME RESTORE IS FAST TO FIlESSYTEM

Hi,
Restore from tapes to ASM for one of our Oracle RAC 10.2.0.4 database on 3 node cluster (GRID - 11.2.0.2) is giving sleepless nights.

Netbackup - NO hardware multiplexing.
Database size - 300 GB
Backup Time - 1 hour
Backup Transfer speed - 112 to 131 MB/s

Restore Time - 2 days
Restore Transfer speed - 300 to 600 KB/s
Restore to ASM disk

I did small test
----------------
Test 1:-
Restore datafile 5 (7Gb appr) to Normal FS. It ran fast and got completed with 112 KB/s speed.

Test 2:-
Restore datafile 5 (7 GB approx) to ASM disk. Its very slow at 600 KB/s speed. Restore completed after 14 hours

LUNs size and speed are same for ASM disk and Normal FS

Experts, Does anybody had this issue earlier?

Regards

I recommed you run some performance tests on the disks without Oracle.

Use copy (or UNIX cp or dd) to copy large files to/from the disks in question to determine their actual performance. This will give more information as to whether it is ASM related, or just slow disk writs. For example, RAID-5 is notoriously slow on writes (but not quite slow enough to cause the problem you describe).
