Backup Exec 12.5

I have a backup running of 350Gb on to an LTO2 Tape with compression enabled, recently the job keeps ejecting the media asking for new media to be inserted into tape drive, Nothing has changed with the backup job, tapes are in a media set for the company and contain all the tapes we use for weekly and monthly backups, this has only been happening since last week.

The Job still backups all the data from what I can read in the logs of the job.

It sounds like you've exceed the capacity of a single LTO2 tape. What's the size at which the job fails or asks for another tape?

Opps just read 350GB.  Native capacity of LTO2 cartridge is 200GB. I've never seen 2x compression with any of my clients. So 300-350GB per tape is more likely. Again I'm almost positive your job is exceeding the capacity of a single cartridge. To solve this you have several options:

    1. Have someone insert a second tape for the backup job to continue. This is a pain as it typically means someone must do it in the morning if you run your backups at night like most business' do. And the job will run partially during the business day.
    2. Add another tape drive. The job can be set to span to the second drive after the first is full.
    3. Lower your total backup size. This will keep it on one tape.
    4. Move to another backup method. Instead of full backups switch to use differentials or incrementals. You'll still need to run a full occasionally and it will take two tapes. But it will be less often therefore less painful.
