I would like to display a powerpoint slide in a windows forms application.

How do I go about doing this?
What controls or 3rd part tools might help?
Is it possible to do this without having powerpoint installed on the machine?

go to Uploading a presentation, it can take ppt flie and publish it for public usage

then you can embed it in your site using an iframe

Using Aspose.Slides for .NET you can do this easily without  requiring PowerPoint installed on the  users machine. I think this is the best and cleanest option. I havent looked at their pricing on this component, but my experience with them has been that they don't hesitate to charge.

Here are a few other examples - using all sorts of different approaches:

    Window capture:
    WebBrowser control:
PowerPoint Viewer and/or ActiveX DSO Framer:,,, (note that ActiveX DSO Framer seems to have disappeared into thin air)
