SQL Server 2000 and 2008

Hello, I have a database on a SQL server 2000 and I need to move that database to a new SQL server 2008.
I would like to know how can I  see the strings or path that attach the database to the SQL server 2000 or how do I connect the database to the new SQL server 2008.

Can't you just create a backup of the 2000 database and restore it in 2008?

You can create backup and restore it because it goes to higher version than lower. so there is no problem to do so.

This is totally useless for what you want to do, but since you insist, in SQL Server 2000 you use:
SELECT DB_NAME(dbid), name, filename
FROM sysaltfiles

Starting from SQL Server 2005 you do not access system tables directly.

additionaly to backup\restore

you may like to use attach\detach (you may need to take care  full-text search; replication dependencies - if you do not have such - this method can be good for you)

on sql server 2000
run this code to see where the db files are located(or from GUI EM or SSMS check db properties.. files location)
use yourdb
select * from sysfiles
--
or stop sql server 2000 or detach your db 2000
copy the files to new server or if detached and sql 2008 on the same box-> attach db to sql 2008
