WSUS installed updates and rebooted server..when set to download and notify
Last night all of our servers installed updates and rebooted at the same time which caused some issues this morning. Our WSUS policy is set to auto download and notify install. Does anyone know what might have caused this? Was there an update from MS that forced the reboot?

Been looking a bit more and i actually have more than one account of this despite it being disabled in the registry fortunatly its not the most noticable server for this to happen to as it reboots on our ESX hosts in about 30 seconds with very little service loss.
However i have just come accross this which i have set on our server but obviously havnt tested it yet:
1. In the Start Menu go to Run type “gpedit.msc” and press Enter
2. Now a Group Policy editor will open. In this window navigate to: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Template -> Windows Components -> Windows Update
3. Double click on No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installations
4. In the settings window Choose Enabled and click OK

tmass99 that was the exact issue. i seperated out our automatic approvals between workstations and servers now and put a deadline on just the workstations. thanks for the input!
Restart Required: To complete the installation of the following updates, the computer will be restarted within 15 minutes:
- Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB2509553)
The log then reads pretty much the same thing: WARNING: Initiating reboot since no user logged on.
Obviously this is not a solution because i havent worked it out myself but i posted out of curiosity if its the same patch. Possibly a MS bug.
