Errors deploying from template in SCVMM 2008 R2 (Hyper-V)

Hi all.

I´m trying to deploy a virtual machine from a template in System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 on a Hyper-V cluster. The job usually fails after deploying the disk file and while customizing vm. My problem is that there are no usable errors to track. A pop up windows appear stating that connection to the Virtual Machine Manager was lost (ID 1612). A look in Event Viewer tells me that the service terminated unexpectedly (Event ID 7031) and has been restarted.

Does anyone know what could be causing this ?

There are a number of articles out there pointing in all and every directions with possible solutions and I´ve tried a few things already but to no luck. My biggest concern is the lack of proper logging to help with real troubleshooting. Does anyone know if there are any decent logging possible with SCVMM and how to turn it on and so on ?

As I understand, you received error "The connection to the Virtual Machine Manager server %ServerName; was lost."

1- Verify that %ServerName; is online and can be accessed from your computer. Then try to connect again.
    2) Verify that the Virtual Machine Manager service on %ServerName; is started, and then try to connect again. If the problem persists, restart the Virtual Machine Manager service.

    Accepted Solution

Well, as I stated in my post I´ve tried a few thing already and yes, verifying that the server I´m working on is online and accessible was an obvious one. Don´t mean to be ungrateful though.

I can be working on the actual server running SCVMM and at the time other VM´s may be running on the host I want to deploy to and they run normally during this. What happens is the deployment failes, the SCVMM console and service restarts and the new VM is in state Creation Failed. Repairing it doesn´t work and only thing left is to delete it.

I can manually create a VM without problem.
