Convert images to line art

I'm purchasing some color images for inclusion into a book I'm writing.  The book is in black and white.  I want to turn the color images into black and white line art.  I've run into some websites that will process images, but either lost the links or the site adds too much shading, etc.  I've tried processing through Photoshop with limited success.

I need suggestions for processing these images.

Thanks in advance.

I found a plug-in for Gimp 2.6 to transform an image  to a "pencil drawing". I'm sure there must be one for Photoshop as well - but I did't check, since I don't use PS. Cropped Image Erase background Line drawingI did this quite rapidly, but you can tweak the settings.

it would help if you supplied a low resolution sample image and also an example of how you want the line art to look... it doesnt need to be the same image just so we can see what you are going from and what you want it to look like in the end.

The exact images have not been selected yet.  I'm looking for inexpensive software to convert it, or a website.  There  was one I had that would convert up to 5 images at a time for free.  The images were high contrast black & white equivalents of the uploaded color image.  Unfortunately I lost the link.  The one I wrote down does a pretty good job but puts a lot of shading on the image that I don't want.

Photoshop and other image processing software can do some of it, but there's a lot of playing around with settings to get a usable image.
