We are using FTP services on our iSeries to push files to other FTP servers.  However, we want to disable the FTP services from allowing other FTP servers from pushing files to, or pulling files from, our iSeries.  Any examples of settings will be greatly appreaciated.
Thank you.

In a 5250 session, enter the command CHGFTPA AUTOSTART(*NO)   This will modify the startup of the server to not autostart when the system is IPL'd or TCP is restarted.

Next enter the command  ENDTCPSVR SERVER(*FTP)   to end the FTP server.

That's it!

Just want to confirm, after performing suggested commands will we still be allowed us to use the iSeries FTP command to FTP a file from the iSeries to another server?

Yes.  FTP client will still work.

Prepare for your VMware VCP6-DCV exam.

Josh Coen and Jason Langer have prepared the latest edition of VCP study guide. Both authors have been working in the IT field for more than a decade, and both hold VMware certifications. This 163-page guide covers all 10 of the exam blueprint sections.

A FTP server is separate from a FTP client. This is little different from being able to run the FTP command from a Windows command line without having FTP server even installed on your PC.

The FTP server is installed on your iSeries with product 5761TC1, 'TCP/IP Connectivity Utilities'. This also includes Telnet, SMTP and some other TCP/IP applications. Rob's advice covers two elements -- the use of CHGFTPA to control automatic starting of the FTP server whenever TCP/IP is started and the use of ENDTCPSVR to end any currently active FTP server instances. I'm not aware of any way to selectively uninstall just the FTP server components without also uninstalling the other TCAP/IP applications (or damaging the 5761TC1 product). Note that anyone with appropriate authority can run STRTCPSVR to restart FTP server instances.
