Remove LV RHEL5

How do I remove a logical volume on RHEL5

This is the error
# lvremove /dev/VolGroup00/appftphome
  Can't remove open logical volume "appftphome"

 #dmsetup info -c /dev/VolGroup00/appftphome

1. Umount the filesystem on that lV
2. lvchange -a y /dev/VolGroup00/appftphome (Make sure the Logic Volume is active)
3. lvremove -f /dev/VolGroup00/appftphome   (Remove the Logic Volume)
