Convert image to transparent (PowerPoint 2010)
Please let me know hoe I can convert an image such that its background becomes transparent using PowerPoint 2010.

Try inserting a shape, for example a rectangle the same size as your photo.
Now with the shape selected use the drawing tools - format pane to select the shape fill on the shape styles pane. Select picture and navigate to your picture ...Insert
Right click the shape, now select format picture | Fill | Picture or texture fill |
Select the transparency slider as required.

If I'm using an image from the internet with a white background, I just want to make the white background transparent.

Seelct the image, format tab color drop down select "set transparent color."
Click the cursor on the color you want made transparent.

For what it's worth, PowerPoint 2010 also has a new Background Removal Tool. It's on the Picture Tools Format tab that shows up when you select the picture.
But making a slide background transparent is possible as indicated by shreedhar.
