If you are using JQUERY, when you do a ajax request, error callback method will be called on timeout.

You can check the second argument value to check, if the error was for timeout, and retry the request again.

Did you try to set the timeout ajax parameter?

    $.ajax({"url":"/path/to/page.aspx", "timeout":36000
