What is the definition of hitcnt?

I can't find any specifics on what exactly hitcnt means.  Does it mean each unique connection attempt?  Does it mean each session that has been established then torn down?   Each individual host that has connected?

it refers to how many times the acl entry was matched against a packet.

So every single packet that is sent increments the counter 1?  So if I ping and 4 packets go out, then the hitcnt should = 4?

the way it works it the first entry that matches the packet counts. if this is your first entry that matches those icmp packet then yes.
