Edge Transport Server replacement with current Ironport email gateway..

Hi,
we are planning to transitioning of our current E2K3 messaging environment to E2K7. we are currently using cisco Ironport as spam filter so my question here is
do we still need a server as edge transport or my existing ironport can do that ?
if yes then please explain a little bit.

Exchange 2007/2010 is an optional role for Exchange. You can perfectly implement exchange servers as mail system without any Exchange Edge Server.

So you can keep using your current AntiSpam solution while upgrading to/using Exchange 2007.
(Be sure that your existing Ironport solution is "Exchange 2007 ready" or compatible with Exchange 2007 , an upgrade to a newer version is perhaps needed)

i have confirmed with cisco support and my existing ironport is 2007 ready.

in my current configuration i have configured ironport IP in SMTP connector as smart host. where and how SMTP connector and smart host will configure in 2007.

in exchange 2007, you have to create a new "SEND CONNECTOR" (type = Internet).
To start the wizard to create it, go to Exchange 2007 Console , on the upper node Organization -> Hub Transport Server.
Then in the middle pane, you should have a tab named "Send Connectors".
Create a new one by right clic
