the command is chkdsk - for help type chkdsk /?

If the disk has a physical problem or is suspected of a physical problem, I strongly recommend getting rid of it.  If it's data corruption then it's probably not a physical problem and chkdsk should do the trick.

    Accepted Solution

    CHKDSK c: /f /r
That will check the C: drive, the /f does the whole file system, the /r checks each sector for bad physical blocks.

Run HDTune too run diagnostics. This program is free - or you can use a  trial version - this should be enough.

I also recommend to get rid of the drive if it having a physical problem just as Leew above.

Watch out before buying some software. Run the CHKDSK option first to see if it is only on the system which has some errors.
