What is the best approach to edit code generated by PHPMaker

I'm not familiar with PHPMaker and I'm still considering myself a PHP newbie.

I need to edit some code that was generated by PhPMaker to create some report pages.
I'm not the dev that created the project.

What is the easiest way to do modify the code, should I use PhPMaker, is it going to be easier?
I usually using Notepad++
Do I need extra files to recreate the PHPMaker environment or is the published files and BD are enough.

My sense is that you would have a learning curve whether you tried to make the edits in a text editor like Notepad++ or whether you tried to use PHPMaker.  I think if I had to work with code generated by PHPMaker, I would try to learn PHPMaker.  The chance of introducing an inconsistency or error would seem to be less if you stick with the one environment.  Just my $0.02.

The easiest way to get PHPMaker users feedback might be to go to the PHPMaker forums:

It's by far the most active of the HKVStore forums.
