Connecting to a PostgreSQL DB from Unix Server

I have a PostgreSQL DB running on a Windows 2003 server and I need to be able to connect to this database from a Unix server to perform queries. What is the simplest way for me to set this up? I have seen several articles online referencing the "psql" command line tool, but I haven't seen any articles saying where to download psql.  Also, would I have to install PostgreSQL on my Unix server in order for psql to work? Thanks in advance.

You can download the postgreSQL distribution at

http://www.postgresql.org/download/

It contains different clients, also psql. You only need to install a client, not the entire server.

What kind of Unix server do you have?
You post on Linux zone and for
RedHat /CentOS/Fedora, you can just do (as root)
# yum install postgresql
to install PostgreSQL client package

for Ubuntu/Debian,
$ sudo apt-get install postgresql

Thanks for the quick response. I tried downloading the PostgreSQL Core Distribution which contains psql, but I don't see an rpm for Unix. I went ahead and tried using the one for Linux, but it is failing due to missing dependencies.

Prepare for your VMware VCP6-DCV exam.

Josh Coen and Jason Langer have prepared the latest edition of VCP study guide. Both authors have been working in the IT field for more than a decade, and both hold VMware certifications. This 163-page guide covers all 10 of the exam blueprint sections.

wesly_chen, I meant to post this in Unix instead. The server I have is running OS AIX 5.3

Thanks that one works!! The only problem I have now is I was hoping that the psql command line tool was self contained and I could just copy it to multiple Unix servers and run it. However, it looks like I will have to install the complete PostgreSQL filesets on all of my Unix servers.

That's correct. Most of time, you can not just copy single binary file. There are dependent files/libraries needed for that binary to run.
