I am trying to upgrade firmware on Samsung Galaxy I9000 using Samsung Kies on PC. Upgrade fails every time saying phone has been disconnected. Phone then tries to reconnect afterwards. Has happened several times - any suggestions?

Have seen several suggestions:

Menu, settings, applications, development > untick USB debugging.
Menu, settings, applications, USB settings > tick check on connection.
Connect the phone via USB, shut down the phone, reboot the phone with the USB still connected and USB debugging ticked.
Check the connector for foreign debris and/or corrosion.  Clean the connector out with compressed air, then get a jeweller's micro screwdriver, wrap a little toilet tissue around it and give the contacts a clean with this mini cotton bud.  If that doesn't work and the contacts seem tarnished on closer inspection, a light abrasive (fine wet & dry paper or even carefully scrape with the screwdriver) may be needed.

Do any of those work for you?

I had a similar issue with an older Samsung when trying to transfer SMS messages from the phone using Samsung PC Studio.  The solution was to access a hidden debug menu with a code and reset the serial connection - though I don't know whether such a thing is possible on the Galaxy.

Thank you for that. It's a new phone so will give the suggestions a go. Thank you.
