This is how it works. The Viewer doesn't get installed on the CD -- the user must download it if it's not already installed.

I think the reason they did this is because it was easier than actually fixing the problem, which is that the Viewer cannot run from a CD -- it needs to have some stuff *installed* in order to open PPTX format files.

The other option is to save your file as PPT format and use the old 2003 Viewer, which WILL run from CD (but which cannot open PPTX files). Here's instrux for setting that up manually: http://www.echosvoice.com/autoruncd2.htm

Actually, I think MS intends the Save as Video option in 2010 to replace sending presentations on CD. (I think they are wrong, but hey, what do I know?) To do that, use File | Save and Send | Create a Video.

Oh, to clarify, when I said this:

...I am talking about the 2010 Viewer -- the one that will run PPTX files and maintain new features like transitions and embedded video and stuff like that.

The old 2003 Viewer will not run PPTX files, and be aware that if you save your PPTX file as PPT, you will lose things like the new 2010 transitions, embedded video, etc.

My Question is why the powerpoint viewer 2010 file is not getting copied along with the folder and files when you make or  create on package for CD option as provided by microsoft. with powerpoint 2010.

Checked up with Microsoft Website for technical support and they have mentioned the same usual procedure on how to do on presentation for package CD as like what we follow from 2003 and 2007 to my knowledge.

Creating as a video file option works fine with any media player. The issue is  you cannot use the remote  hardware device like powerpoint presenter  for ppt here.

Because it's not designed to get copied to the CD. They didn't design the package for CD feature to do that, sorry.

Anu other files added to the package.
The microsoft powerpoint viewer to play this presentation.

The documentation is incorrect.  The Viewer is not included on the CD, and that is by design. I don't know what else to tell you, sorry.
