Quick one,

Can the SFP-10G-SR transciever work with a Cisco 3560G serise switch?  I have two SFP+ that I want to connect  a 10G fiber.  Only I am not sure the switch will work with the 10G transciever.

Thanks

Frank

Will it downgrade or just not work at all?

Correct.
A 10G SFP will never work in a 1G SFP port
3560G only has 1G SFP ports
3560X has 4 ports that can be either 2 x 10G or 4 x 1G depending on the SFP.

Can link aggregation be done over two 1g SFP transformers via minigboc ports? That way I can switch out the SFP's and to 1g.

Hello,

I am not familiar with the concept of "minigboc ports" but below is a paragraph I can read from my CCNP SWITCH exam book:

"Finally, Cisco has extended the concept of Fast EtherChannel to bundle several Gigabit Ethernet links to act as a single physical connection.  With Gigabit EtherChannel (GEC), thow to eight full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet connections can be aggregated, for a single logical link of up to 16-Gbps throughput."

So if I understand very well, you can use the gigabit port (and this should work whether you are using SFP or not) to make up a channel of up to 16-Gbps.

Hello,

I have found some info on "Mini gbic"

"A gigabit interface converter (GBIC) is a standard for transceivers, commonly used with Gigabit Ethernet and fibre channel"

I never knew they are called Minigbic. I always call them SFP which is generic. Thanks very for this info. I like to learn new stuff.

Thanks.

Sorry it was a typo from my cell phone. I was trying to type mini gbic ports, small form factor for SFP transceivers.

Thanks for the info on the LA! Up to 16gb is impressive!
