changing the size of a page or content field in SharePoint (Designer)

After adding a page field to a publishing page layout page I noticed that the size was smaller than what I would have liked so I tried to modify the size via SharePoint Designer 2010.  However I haven't been able to accomplish this as well as even trying to change the font style of the text.  Does anyone know how to do this?

Remember, all of the CSS is applied dynamically as the page is built and rendered in SharePoint.  So there is probably a CSS style being applied that you are unaware of.

You can use a tool like the IE Developer Toolbar or a variety of FF addons to inspect the CSS and find out what is being applied to the element.

Fixing it is tricky because if you aren't careful you can overrided (by accident) a lot of other elements.
