vb.net - creating a New SocketClient

I am having a little issue creating a New SocketClient..
when I enter the actual password like this it works
Dim Client As New SocketClient("myUser", "myPass")
but when I make it get the password from a textbox it wont run..
Dim Client As New SocketClient(User.Text, Pass.Text)
what can I do?
