Open Source Capture / Scanning Document Management advice
Hi guys.
This is one I've been googling for some time, and failed to find a solution. My basic needs are the ability to scan in household documents from a multi-page feed scanner, and easily add the documents in to a management system, with the ability to predefine 'document types' with possible data fields. I will also need to be able to append to existing files.
So for example, I will start a document for my electricity bills for the whole of 2011. The document type would be a predefined as 'Household Bill'. There would be data fields for 'Provider' and 'Account Number', which I'd fill out at scan time. I would add new bills that came in to this file over the year, by using an append function.
I've looked at loads of systems, but most seem focused on already digitised files, or can do scanning with the addon of an expensive commercial plug-in (such as Kofax). Does anyone have any further suggestions as to a Open Source project that would achieve this?
Many thanks :D

At the present moment in time, I am unable to find a document management system that is both Open Source, and meets the criteria I set in the question :(
Found anything yet? This is what I am looking for too.

I'm afraid not. I ended up becomming a reseller for, and implementing for myself, a system called FileDirector. It works very well for what I wanted, but is not Open Source (instead built on Microsoft IIS / .NET 2.0 framework). Sadly, there is nothing I'm aware of in the community that allows this kind of scanning / archiving. I guess there just isn't the demand for Open Source programmers to feel justified in spending their time on, although I haven't properly looked in years!
The software is free and if the features make sense for all we can look into adding them for you. Just contact us at www.scan-monitor.com and give us your feedback.
