DVD/CD Drive hardware disappears from Hardware list in device driver

My cd/dvd drive is not listed in device manager and as a result, my drive no longer recognizes discs I place in the drive. i have rebooted and checked for hardware changes and still nothing

    Does the device show in the BIOS of this computer?

    If it doesn't then it may be faulty or the cables connecting it to the motherboard may be faulty.

    Check the cables and connections anyway.

    if drive opens up for receiving CDs/DVDs then power cable connection is good. Check with data cable connected to drive. Try replacing it with a new one.
