Installing Exchange 2010 in Windows 2003/Exchange 2003 Environment
I have a stable and working Exchange 2003 environment and am now working on moving over to Exchange 2010. I have installed a second server (Windows 2008 Standard SP2) and properly integrated it into the Windows 2003 domain. I have the Forest and Domain level at 2003 and the Exchange server in native 2003 mode.
I have proceeded to updating the schema and have been stuck at the /prepareAD step. I get the following error:
Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server
Organization Preparation ......................... FAILED
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); install-RootOrganiz
ationContainer -DomainController $RoleDomainController" was run: "Couldn't find
the Enterprise Organization container.".
I have check everything and cannot figure out the source of the "Couldn't find the Enterprise Organization container" error. DNS appears correct, the Forest/Domain is set properly and the 2008 Server appears to be integrated in the AD domain correctly.
Any help of suggestions?

use run as administrator on CMD and execute the prep commands
note: the user ID also need to be the part of Enterprise Admin rights on domain/forest

ASKER
I have run all the prep commands as Administrator which has Enterprise Admin rights on the domain/forest.
I ran ExPDA as well and the only issues were the fact that I use a Smarthost and SMTP is on port 2525.
I have followed every guide I can get my hands on with no luck.
I may be missing something here and need some suggestions.

if it still failes then Download Exchange Pre Deployment Analyzer and let this tool guide you to proper direction

ExPDA was installed and run and identified the Smarthost issue along with the port 2525 issue. This shouldn't present a problem at install and I need these active to continue mail flow.
did you tried restarting domain Controllers and then the new server (exchange 2010) and then run the prep commands
ASKER
I restarted both server and allowed them to update AD. No help.
this might help you http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224(EXCHG.140).aspx

I have reviewed this technet document and followed it completely. Still no luck with the Exchange 2010 install.
