Try going to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > click the Restore advanced settings button. Hopefully this might get this functionality restored.

IT seems like it has been around from initial setup.  1.5 months. we are using AVG Biz edition for AV. I disabled the settingsd from there. no change.

It's hard to know what the issue is. You might try a system restore.

I don't know what the links in question look like, but sometimes links can be coded to be pop-ups which can be affected by pop-up blockers. I would suggest trying to disable the IE8 pop-up blocker temporarily and any other toolbars that may affect such (e.g. Google toolbar, etc.).

foster5000Author Commented:
Sorry, I already shutdown every pop up blocker I could fine. including the built in IE one.

If you have the Google toolbar installed, could you disable it (temporarily)?

Here is something new.... When I log on as a different user, the links work. it is profile specific......

Brian GeeCommented:
Creating a new Windows profile sounds like it would more than likely resolve this rather peculiar issue then...
