Newbie: Entry Not Found In Index

I apologize for this newbie question.  I am in the process of learning Lotus Domino/Notes administration while my company schedules training.  I'm running 8.0.2.

I inherited a neglected system that replicates between two notes servers.  I thought I was cleaning up unused Directory Server documents.  After a couple of deletes, I now find myself with error messages whenever I try to click on "Server > Current Server Document" and "Directory > Directory Cataloger."  The same error happens on both server #1 and #2 now.  Clicking on "All Server Documents" appears to be ignored.

After reading lots of forums, it looks like names.nsf may have an issue??  I tried F9 and Ctrl-Shift-F9 with no joy.  I tried compact and fixup as well.  I'm not sure what to try next.  Any thoughts are appreciated.  Thanks for your help!

And you made a backup before you started?

If the Server document for the server still exists, you can click File/Open Server... The Admin client has its own Preferences, you could also look there.

Thanks for your help.  I was hoping that it could be fixed without resorting to backup.  But, nothing seems to work.  I'm replacing the current names.nsf with the backup version.
