DNS on Windows Server 2003

I have a client with a DNS server running on Windows Server 2003.  I set up a subdomain on this server, and I can successfully connect to the website running under that sudomain by editing my local hosts file.

However, it does not seem that the subdomain is propagating anywhere.  I've only worked with third party DNS before.  Is there a method to start the propagation on a local server such as this?

Thanks in advance for any help,

You mean you want this subdomain's DNS records to propagate to the rest of the internet?

If that is the case, you need to either:
create this zone on your (internet-facing) DNS host
have the aforementioned DNS host point to your server as the name server for this subdomain

(I would go with the first option myself)
