Can you change Windows 7 built in backup settings such as disk space used?

Is there any way to change the WIndows 7 built in backup settings such as the percentage of disk space used, such as using the whole drive or a determined portion of network drive. The default is 30% but that setting is limited. I am also looking for a way of reporting such as email notifications when it fails. Trying to use windows 7 backup to save my non-profit org money and use the built in previous versions feature to allow users to restore files but I need to beable to manage it to some extent. Is MS DPM my answer?

vssadmin List ShadowStorage

vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /On=?: /For=?: /Maxsize=???GB

? = your volume and the space you like do dedicate max for the backup (Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space)

Lets say I have a second drive with the volume d:, so the /on=? would be d: and the /For C: or D:? This is for system backup images from the C: drive using windows backup 7.

vssadmin add shadowstorage /for=volume /on=storevolume

where volume represents the volume on which shadow copy is to be enabled and storevolume is the volume on which the shadow copies are to be stored.
