Exchange 2010 install error 'This computer is not in the same AD site as the schema master'

We've got 2 sites in AD with 1x Server 2008 R2 servers in each. The main one (in the site called OFFICE) is the Schema master. We are trying to install Exchange 2010 to another server at a remote site (in the site called REMOTE) and keep getting the error above.
I have ran preparead in the office site server and updated the schema. I have also checked schema versions and both servers match so they are the same.
I can ping from either server to the other and there is a static VPN between them but i can't seem to get past this error.
any help would be great.

Below article talks about same issue.

Check for the AD replication issue. Check below KB also from MS.

You might need to run the /prepareschema and /prepareAD again. Use latest service pack setup for running these command.

Finally reboot your remote site DC and try again.

Hope this helps

Thanks, the KB worked fine.
I've read that Exchange 2010 is site aware and so didn't think this would be the cause but there you go !!!
