exchange 2007 server recieving emails

we have had emails push to our exchange 2007 server , due to reasons we now have had the MX records pointed
to our exchange server althought using dnsstuff it agrees the mx records point to our external ip the exchange will not recieve email although it still sends , can anyone let me know what changes on the exchane server need to be don to except emails
any help would be appreciated

    Check your exchange server's Drive capacity
    Test if you can telnet to the port and test if SMTP is fine.

    Server config > Hub tansport  -> Receive connector
    In Permissions Group
    Try enabling anonymous access for this connector

    I have tested the drive size  c: = 1.5 gb free   e: were the store is = 53gb free

    but I can not telnet the server ip address port 25

    I have made sure the anonymous access is enabled

    the exchange store is presently 43 gb could it be to big

    I have deleted some log files and increased the c dive capacity to over 4gb
