Active Sync and IPS

I have Exchange 2003. Activesync works. I'm using Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 MR6 (the latest version) for anti-virus. I installed IPS this past weekend.  And ...

Exchange mailbox Server response timeout: Server: [xxx.xxx.xxx] User: [xxx@xxx.xxx]. Exchange ActiveSync Server failed to communicate with the Exchange mailbox server in a timely manner. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly and is not overloaded.


The Exchange mailbox Server: [xxx.xxx.xxx] has reached its timeout threshold. The mailbox server will be protected from new requests for [60] seconds.

- These issues are caused by perfomaces issues.

- Run Exchange 2003 Best Practise Analyser tool and fix the errors and warnings reported.

Why did these errors not occur until IPS was installed?
If you believe SEP's IPS component to be causing this, review the Security Log for corresponding IPS events.

Client Management > View Logs > Security Logs

Did you by chance assign a Firewall policy to the group the Exchange server's client resides in?

I uninstalled the IPS and resolved the issue.
