How Do You Read from a SharePoint List Definition and Write to a SharePoint List?

How do you read from a SharePoint list definition and write to a SharePoint list using SharePoint Link to SQL.  I want the Link to SQL read and write in a web part that accesses the already created list definition.

    out of box you can configure Usage Analysis and Tracing activity at site or site collection level ,

     The reports can be viewed at the site or site collection level by navigating to the "Site Settings" from the "Site Actions" menu and selecting the option called "Site Collection usage reports" under a section labelled "Site Collection Administration"
