"Not enough memory present in router for update" Cisco 870

Hi,

I want to install SDM on my router, however when I do this I get the following error message:
"Not enough memory present in router for update"

If I do a show flash command on my device I get the following -

Directory of flash:/

    2  -rwx    18837976   --- -- ---- --:--:-- -----  c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-                             24.T4.bin

    4  -rwx        1038   Mar 1 2002 00:40:57 +00:00  home.shtml
    5  -rwx      122880   Mar 1 2002 00:41:01 +00:00  home.tar
    7  -rwx      527849   Mar 1 2002 00:05:49 +00:00  128MB.sdf

Can anyone tell me what I can safely delete to free up space on my router?

Thanks

I hope CrashDummy is ready to help him reload his image via xmodem when he reboots this router! You do not delete the IOS to load SDM. SDM is an add on package for management of the router.

You can delete the following files from the router and then load the SDM.
home.shtml
home.tar
128MB.sdf

That should give you enough room to load the SDM.

Do you get the error when trying to boot the new image or when trying to copy it to the router? How much total and how much free flash do you have? I believe the default on the 870 series was 24mb and the max was 52. Unless you've maxed it out, you're probably going to have to delete the old image before copying the new one.

Hi,

It's when I run the SDM installer (setup.exe) from my laptop. I only have 388kb available where I actually need 8059 kb. I know I need to free up space I just don't know what I can delete.

The only thing that's going to free up that much space will be deleting the old image (c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-24.T4.bin). It should be pretty safe enough to delete and install the new one.

If the upgrade fails and you've deleted the old image, it should still boot to ROMmon mode and be recoverable.

The upgrade wont even start until I've freed up enough space. All I need to know is what files to delete in order to free up the space on my device.

Delete c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-24.T4.bin

Crap, I misread what he was trying to do. I was thinking a new IOS image. He can delete the files you said, yes, but he will still only have about 1.5mb free. The only way to get enough free space is to upgrade the flash memory.

Sorry
