Encryption using AES_ENCRYPT

Wanted an expert advice on mysql aes_encrypt function.
i'm using this to encrypt some sensitive data using a key. i wanted to be sure if this is a good way and will not put me in a tricky situation when mysql upgrades happen especially major upgrades like 5.0 to 5.1 and to 5.5 and later 6.0

    I don't think you will encounter any issues. There was one reported for 4.1 to 5.0, see

    But nothing for 5.0 to 5.1 or newers.

    I guess we should test this before really migrating to new version of MySQL.

    That's for sure! Any changes you made to your environment should be tested before moving it to production.
