I have a Windows XP embedded system with SP1 and there doesnt seem to be remote desktop connection client in the start menu.  What do I need to do to get it installed? It is running a machine in our factory from the mahcine supplier so I dont want to install XP Service packs or play around too much

Hi,

You must install the RDP client.

Here is a good resource.

Hi,

The client must be installed in the Embedded XP SP1 system.  Download the version client into the XP system and install it.

So you are saying there is no difference between installing on Windows XP and XP embedded?

Not true. There are several differences between XP embedded and regular XP. First of all XPe (embedded) has a filter driver out of the box to prevent writes by regular users. Secondly it has limited space so depending on what you install you need to change its configuration to point the TEMP folders to another location like an USB key.
Normally these devices running XPe are sold by thin client like vendors (i.e. Wyse, HP, etc) and in order to install/upgrade anything on them you should contact them directly.
I know that for the simple reason I have been working with these for 15+ years and three months ago had to upgrade the Citrix client on a Wyse device running XPe and had to go through the whole thing to get it done as a regular install would NOT work at all.

Answer ID 35483442 clearly covers all that was asked and does provide the user with a solution (contact thin client vendor).
