Deleted items are supposed to be deleted.<br />
You should either archive from your inbox or moved the mail to be archived to another folder first, not the deleted items folder.<br />

Try restoring the deleted items to a new folder you create just for archiving, setup archiving on that folder and see if the problem persist.<br />
If its fixed you can just move your mail to that folder instead of deleting it before archiving it.

i moved everything from the deleted items to a folder i created called &quot;tobearchived&quot; setup archiving on that folder and did the steps i described eariler to run archiving on that folder, and it still shows very old dates?

i have outlook 2010 and i set my deleted items to archive anything older than a month. i click the file tab on the ribbon, and clicked cleanup tools, and chose archive, then i selected the deleted items folder checked all the settings ( they looked fine ) then clicked ok. outlook shows that it is archiving, but when it is done, and i check the deleted items - there are things still in there from 2010! would there be a reason it is ignoring really old deleted items?
