Acer Aspire M1641 cant find hd

Hi!
I have an Acer Aspire M1641 and there was some problem with the harddrive and a friend removed all partions and formated the harddrive in his computer (he put it into his computer and formated it there because nothing else worked). And now when i am going to install Vista from a cd i just get the message that there is no harddrive.

I have read that it helps to change the bios setting "AHCi to IDE" but i do not have that option in my bios. Anybody that have a clue?

If the drive is not coming up in BIOS, you won't get it to come up then there is definitely something wrong with the drive. The formatting of the drive doesn't matter in BIOS. BIOS just checks to see if there is anything there, reads the hardware and displays it on your screen.

If it comes up NO DEVICE DETECTED or UNKNOWN DEVICE you have a hardware problem.
Does your BIOS show the harddisk?
