HP EliteBook 8540p Default install of Windows 7 x64

I've just got a new HP EliteBook 8540p for a client & the default image is Windows 7 x86 (32bit).
It needs to have the 64bit version on it and there is 2 approaches of doing it.
1. Format everything & install Windows 7 x64 & apps via the supplied DVD media.
2. Keep the factory setup as native as possible but install with x64.

For #2 - is there any factory option to do this? So far the factory restore doesn't even offer the 64bit OS?

Sigh - the Toshiba setups are so much easier.

"Format everything & install Windows 7 x64 & apps via the supplied DVD media"

If you have HP OEM W7 x64 DVD for that system, use it.

Solution: As jcgriff stated however it required some partition deleting. Not the nicest way to do it but it's all going now.
