Last Modified: 2012-05-11
Current environment:
Head office (HO):
Windows 2003 DC with DNS and Exchange 2003 standard on the same box (dc-ex).
Site replication: HO-A, HO-B

Site A: Windows 2003 DC with DNS (dc-a)
Site B: Windows 2003 Dc with DNS (dc-b)

Goal: separate Exchange 2003 and dc role s on dc-ex.

Plan to implement it in the following steps:
Phase#1. Install a new Widnows 2003 (dc-a), join it to domain and promote it to DC.
Phase#2. run dc-a as dc for a day to synchronize;
Phase#3. transfer all master roles from dc-ex to dc-a;
Phase#4. run dc-a and dc-ex with other dc-a & dc-b for a day;
Phase#5. remove dc function from dc-ex and make it Exchange only.

Q#1. Please comment if the above overall phases are ok;
Q#2. Please provide the detailed steps for each phase and how to verify if it is successful.

Thanks.
