Exchange 2007 SAN Migration

I need to migrate my exchange server 2007 running on VMware ESX 3.5, from and older SAN to a new SAN.

So far I have migrated over 25 smaller vms with 8-15G of space. However, my exchange server has close to 200G of space. I know it will take about 4 hours to complete.

The question is: Is there anything i should be looking at before doing this? Best Practices or anything else would be helpful.
Thanks,

Is your Exchg VM connected via RDM?...or simple virtual disks? Do you have svMotion (storage vMotion)? That is simple to do your migration that way. I had to do that middle of last year myself. The only thing to look for, if you're able to do a storage vMotion is, after your VM is migrated, you may notice your old SAN still 'attached' to your VM. If I recall correctly, to fix that, all you need to do is remove the VM from Inventory (*DO NOT DELETE IT*), then re-add it. Pretty straight-forward process otherwise.

Best of luck!

1. Make sure you have a backup (three is a good number).

2. Check the SAN with a test VM before you attempt migration.

3. They you are ready to go.

(don't forget the scheduled downtime require to complete this operation).

I don't think I have RDM. I have vmotion but not storage vmotion.  I need to shut down the vm then do the migration (same host but different LUN).

As mentioned so far not a single glitch with the other ones (linux and windows)

Ok...well, no biggee, really, just downtime is all. And, as "hanccocka" mentions, just have a current b/u prior to doing your migration.

Best of luck!
