Cannot install Instant Search on Windows XP sp3 comp

I cannot install Instant Search on Windows XP sp3 comp. All Windows and Office updates are installed. I'm trying to install WindowsSearch-KB940157-XP-x86-enu.exe and getting an error message- windows search could not be installed on this system.

Try the following links

as per error logs. Might be Antivirus software blocking registry update
Try disabling antivirus software during install

Antivirus software is disabled, still no luck installing Instant Search. The Microsoft article does not help, because the service is not installed. This is happened to be my boss’s comp. I need to fix it ASAP. Thanks for helping me.

Oh sorry about that .... it looks like the registry is not updating... i am looking into the matter now ... in the meantime can you tell me whether you are in domain environment or not?

ok ..... maybe you have already done that... but still worth asking ... have you tried updating using Domain Administrator login?

ok try this now .... start pc on safemode with networking ... use domain administrator account... now try it one more time

ok now with clear head ... all we have to do is to reset your registry permissions... there are few methods to do so ... first lets go with the automated one

download and run this ... after it completes ... restart pc and re run that update
