Disconnected VM machines

In VSphere Virtual center  I can see some VM Machines, they show in the summary tab as powered on with OS information , but in the left pane they show disconnected. I can ping them successfully but I cannot console to them. The VM tools show OK.

Anyone has an idea what s wrong with those VMs?

    Accepted Solution

Login to the ESX host console, and Restart Network Management agent, it looks like the Management Agents has stopped working (normal issue).

This will not affect the powered on VMs.

just also do a sanity check, and check the datastores are presented to the ESX host. But as the VMs are running you can ping, can you also RDP to them?

the VMs should be running okay, it's just Management Agent on the host server has stopped, this can happen occasionally.

If you go into Hosts and Clusters view, you see that a host is disconnected, right?

do you mean to use the service console on the host to restart Network Management agent?

    Assisted Solution

restart the service console on the host.  if it's ESXi you can just select the option on the console or if it's ESX, run the command 'server mgmt-vmware restart'
