I have an .avi file that is damaged that I need to restore.

I used a program called CAM Studio to record some desktop actions, and it created a corrupt .avi file, is there any way to recover/open this file?

I have had some luck, in the past, with :

DivXrepair
It was able to repair some, not all, of the damaged AVI  for me.  and it is free.

You could try the free Virtualdub software.

http://www.virtualdub.org/

 1) Load the .AVI file (DivX-compressed or otherwise) into the most recent version of VirtualDub

 2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"

 3) Select "Scan videostream for errors"

 4) Select "Mask bad frames"

 5) Save with a new filename

Have you tried other repair tools, as suggested?

Could you test it in GSpot for me then post the results from Gpsot?
If the avi is damaged ( unplayable) not much you can do.
But Gspot will tell us heaps
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/GSpot
Also in cam studio it has  2 players
try playing it in Movie Player 2.1
Your avi should look like this on Gspot, no errors or bad headers.
Once loaded click on the  Vid under Proposed solutions
