CD Drive is Working But It Will Only Read CD's, DVD's or Flash Drives When Live Booted In Ubutu
Hi,
I have a system I am working on it is running windows xp media edition. It had a virus / malware issue which I have resolved but it won't read flash drives, cd's or dvd's except if I use linux and live boot then it reads them just fine. It does detect the cd drive, and will do a software eject of the tray. It also detects flash drives, but says that it is not formatted ( this is not a real problem I tried with several and they are working on another windows xp machine ). Please let me know if you have seen a similar problem and have an idea what to do next.
( I have checked power, cables and master slave that is all in order )

Thanks for the quick response.
1. I tried the cmd as admin sfc/scannow and it said that files that are required to run properly must be copied to the dll cache put in the cd now. The problem is it won't read the cd to copy the files not sure what to do about that.
2. I tried the link to microsoft and it said that it fixed some error but the some problems could not be fixed. Nothing has changed.
