Single Domain Forest or Single Forest with multiple domains
Hi All,
Our company and few others merged together and formed “New Company”. 80% of New Company staff will be located at head office (around 170 users) however there will be few remote sites that will need to have user experience just like they would be at head office (another 100 users) All users in New Company will have new email suffix @newcompany.com
As of now all companies that merged and formed New Company are using their previous IT infrastructure as we are in process of moving to new location (Head Office) To make it more complicated our New Company is now taken over by a big organisation (Main Organisation) and they said they will provide all new IT infrastructure for our new Head Office and remote offices and will plug New Company to their Big Corporate network. We know that since there are so big their IT help desk is not very good and sometimes users have to wait days to hear back from helpdesk. Also desktops are imaged and locked down and users can’t really do anything. Also it means Head Office will not have IT support in house but every issue will have to be raised on their Intranet site. (not really ideal for us as our New Company needs flexible environment)
Also New Company will have to have own Intranet with links to Main Organisations Intranet
Ideally we would like to go independent and have more flexible environment (lots of people will be using specific application such as CS5, Dreamweaver, 64-bit desktops, laptops with offline files etc) and have our own servers in house however we will still need to have access to Main Organisation’s SAP and Intranet.
What setup would you recommend to achieve this?
If we cannot be independent and would have to be on the Main Organization’s network what would be best setup. So we can have flexible environment, manage our domain and exchange server by IT located in the head office as well as have desktop support in the head office.
What would be ideal setup (along with user experience that we want) but on the basis that Main Organisation will provide central service and we will just operate on their servers?
We need to go back to Main Organisation with some setup recommendation for both scenarios of being independent with ability to assess SAP and Intranet and being part of Main Organization but be able to fully manage and support our own tin.

This solution is only available to members.
To access this solution, you must be a member of Experts Exchange.
if all your exchange servers are in the same organisation then you won't have any problem.
ASKER
is it possible to have exchange server in subdomain only responsible SMTP namespace for subdomain users and still be part of top level exchange organization ?
ASKER
so exchange admins for subdomain will not be able to make changes to exchange at the top level even tho they will be in the same organisation
yeah should be as long as you add the sub domian admin to the right exchange groups.
ASKER
would it be possible to view Free/Busy status for user in Main Organisation Exchange environment if we want to check availabilty for meetings ?
Thanks
